We accelerate into 2026 at Highlands
For some people it was a relaxing start to 2026, easing back in, perhaps with a slight lingering sunburn from our one day of summer. Not us, however. We started full throttle with a big day at Highlands Motorsport Park, the entire Earthworm team discovering their competitive streaks and need for speed.
The arrival back after the holiday period was a two-day event, with the first day spent with our entire team travelling to the Gore office for a research and strategy session. These gatherings are so important for brainstorming new ideas and refining existing ones.
While the planning was important, it’s safe to say the team were probably looking forward to day two, with an early start on the road to Highlands. Here we undertook four different challenges: Go-kart racing, the Subaru driving experience, mini golf, and 1v1 reaction time test.
A recent arrival to the Earthworm team proved to be a bit of a dark horse on the day. Shani, our new Marketing Coordinator, took out the Subaru WRX challenge with an impressive showing. Nick triumphed on the carts and Diego and Shane tied on the mini golf. Shane was awarded top honours with his overall score.

It was an incredibly fun day – we’re not sure how we’ll top it next year! A few of our aspiring Liam Lawsons learned a lesson or two as well. Just like with our work, good driving is not all about foot-to-the-floor acceleration. Control and careful attention are certainly helpful if you want to make the chequered flag.
What was the highlight?
“Great weather, great location, and great people.” – Shane.
“It was just cool to see everyone happy and the banter flowing.” – Rick
“The delicious food and, of course, being the fastest in the karts.” – Nick.
“Catching up with everyone in person. While we often speak daily on the phone, it’s not the same.” – Rod.
What surprised you about the day?
“The competitiveness of everyone.” – Shane.
“I’d have to say Shani winning the Subaru challenge with a very well-driven race.” – Rod.
“The variety of winners (and the fact we couldn’t finish off the carrot cake between everyone).” – Rick.
“That just having your foot flat in the Subaru challenge isn’t the fastest way.” – Nick.
Why was the day important?
“It was really satisfying to see the everyone working together in a different environment. We’ve got a great team!” – Rick.
“The opportunity to unwind and have some fun outside of a work environment at such a cool place is always helpful.” – Rod
“It was just an all-round great time. Everyone was relaxed and enjoying themselves.” – Shane.
“Great team building, great for people working together and seeing everyone outside of work!” – Nick.
