A smarter solution for rebar processing: Southern Aggregates

Southern Aggregates has taken scrap metal recovery to the next level with the Mantovanibenne SD20 Shear Dismantler, tackling the challenge of processing rebar remnants from crushed power poles with speed and confidence.

In just a short time, the SD20 has proven its worth—delivering higher scrap metal returns and making quick work of a tough job.

The decision to go with this attachment was not taken lightly, as the power poles required the perfect mix of power and precision.

With large amounts of steel-reinforced concrete to process, Southern Aggregates first deployed a fixed pulveriser, which did an excellent job breaking down the material. However, the challenge resizing the leftover rebar for recycling remained.

The company initially considered a steel shear.

Earthworm recommended the Mantovanibenne SD20 for its specialised design, ongoing versatility and, (due to its interchangeable blades), the ability to extend the lifespan of the attachment while delivering flexibility for varied cutting tasks.

The SD20 could efficiently cut the rebar to size while its pincher tips crushed and removed any remaining concrete – leaving behind clean, high-value metal ready for recycling.

“The sharp, narrow jaws of this attachment makes it ideal for stripping concrete from rebar,” says Earthworm Sales Manager Jerry McLean. “You wind up with a far cleaner end product.”

“The continuous hydraulic rotation makes the SD20 far easier to precisely position,” he says. “So there’s no need for constantly adjusting the excavator position, and less time needed to get the job done.”

With the Mantovanibenne SD20, Southern Aggregates has found the perfect solution—one that streamlines the process, maximizes efficiency, and increases scrap metal returns.
