The Hilbre Avenue water tower stood over the Gore skyline for nearly 80 years. Now, with Southern Demolition’s expertise and a couple of handy Earthworm attachments, it’s come back down to earth.
Originally built in 1948, the tower was identified as a health and safety risk in 2022. The decaying concrete, asbestos, and the danger of falling debris meant there was no other option except for demolition. Gore District Council awarded the demolition of the tower, along with the East Gore treatment building and reservoir, to Southern Demolition.
The cleared site will make way for a modern reservoir and upgraded infrastructure as Gore works to meet national drinking water standards.
Southern Demolition already run a range of Earthworm attachments. Two of them took on the tower: a DEMCO DMB215 rock breaker and an MBI RP25 rotating pulveriser.
Over the few weeks of demolition some of our Gore team regularly checked in on progress. It’s not every day your equipment is integral to retiring such a high profile landmark – it was great to watch the fast progress of the demolition team.
